Bill Thompson
I was born in 1966 in Hudson New York. i was raised in Catskill within a few hundred yards of the Thomas Cole Home and Studio, in a small stone pre revolutionary cottage off the Hudson River. I went to primary school in Loudonville, New York and my parents were both from upstate New York. My mother, Annemarie raised on a farm in Germantown and my father, William Sr. raised in the Catskill mountain town of Windham and Maplecrest.
Although I sign my works (WBTHOMPSON) I am known as Bill and am very excited to be showing artworks Saratoga and Lake George because it give me a reason to return to my familial and artistic roots. My earliest memories of upstate New York had a profound influence on my early eye and aesthetic. As I continued in my art studies I became more steeped in the Hudson River School masters.
I attended Trinity University in San Antonio Texas and studied under art professor Bill Bristow, who encouraged me to pursue a life of painting. I met David Hill years ago in the Virgin Islands and was drawn into David’s prodigious talent and recognize the same spark and virtuosity in David’s works that can be found in the masters of the Hudson River School. I am honored to be given the opportunity to show my works alongside David, Sharon Castro and the other great artists of the gallery!
I live in the Virgin Islands and maintain homes and studios in CT and the USVI. My works are noted for their fauvist strength of line and expressive use of color. I would say my works are influenced by stained glass windows and cloissine. I have galleries that exhibit my works from California to the Caribbean and have been fortunate to have numerous works that are in prominent corporate and private collections worldwide.
